CHD 216 Early Childhood Programs, School, and Social Change
After taking this course I have learned about how large a role that families, parents, and communities play in a child’s education. I understand that getting parents, families, and the community involved in their children’s learning is a huge benefit for them. It is also increases students achievement and promotes positive educational outcomes. My artifact from this course was the creation of a parent’s newsletter. The newsletter is a tool used to encourage communication and to inform my parents of current events in our classroom to try and get them involved. Included in the newsletter were current areas of study, reminder notes, special events, tips on learning, and feature events or upcoming topics. I learned that I can help support families by providing them knowledge of community resources through a tool such as a newsletter. I also learned about the importance of creating communication between the home and the school. Knowing how to choose and use the appropriate tools for effective communication between home and school is a very important skill as a teacher. The newsletter is an excellent way to keep families informed about program events, activities, and curriculum information. This is also a way to increase parent’s involvement within the early childhood education classroom.
