CHD 165 Observation and Participation in Early Childhood
From completing this course I have learned about the importance of observation and how it benefits both teachers and children. I have learned about various observation tools and how to select the most appropriate observation tool for each observation. The most important concept that I gained from taking this class is how to observing, documenting, and assessing children can be used to greatly improve their learning and development. My artifact from this course was an assessment of a child’s artwork. A child explained their artwork to me while I asked them questions about it. From this interview I was able to report on certain areas of the child’s development. For example, after interviewing the child I was able to determine that she was in the pictorials stage of her artistic development and that her fine motor skills we above average. From this course I am better able to determine, pick up on, and analyze children on their progress in the areas of physical, cognitive, social and emotional development.
