CHD 205 Guiding the Behavior of Children
Through this course I learned how to understand, detect and analyze children’s emotions and behavior and how to help guide children to respond to situations in appropriate ways. I understand that because children are so young they lack life experiences and need to be taught and guided from adults who already have knowledge from those experiences. My artifact from this course is my guidance philosophy. Creating this helped me understand my role in teaching and in guiding the behavior of children. It made me realize that families and communities have a huge impact on children’s behavior and to look at each child as a whole: physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and language. It also helped me to look within myself on how I want to teach and guide them in positive ways by applying my knowledge and experiences. Also, I learned about what causes mistaken behavior and how I can help solve their behavioral problems. As a teacher of young children, I learned that it is not enough to only teach them but I also have to be a role model for them. My behavior in the classroom can affect how children will react and respond to each other since they are around me all day.
