CHD 166 Infant and Toddler Programs
Through this course I have learned about children’s growth and development from birth up to 36 months. This course gave me a foundation of knowledge and prepared me to work with infant and toddlers in an educational setting. I am now able to determine and provide appropriate learning materials to support infants and toddlers. My artifact from this course was an Infant and Toddler Environmental Assessment I completed where I had to observe infant and toddlers in a classroom setting. From this assessment I learned a lot about infant and toddler behavior and also about how the classroom environment is designed. I have learned that setting and classroom design includes the staff and guidance provided by them, safety space, the program, and parent-family interaction. I have observed a proper setting as well as teaching strategies used with infants and toddlers in real life that meet all of the standards. From this course I have also had a chance to reflect strategize on how I could apply my knowledge and make changes to the place I visited in order to improve the environment for infants and toddlers. After completing this class artifact, I will use some of teacher’s strategies I observed in my own classroom in order to keep the children under control and focused. Also, how the teacher effectively communicated to parents to maintain a positive relationship with them.
