CHD 215 Models of Early Childhood Programs
This course was important because it provided me with a variety of different theories from very smart researchers on how and why children develop the way that they do. I feel that there is no theory that is absolutely correct. Instead, I believe that each theory has its own set of truths and that all together they can give the early childhood educator much knowledge that can help their student’s learning and development. My artifact from this course was a constructivist lesson plan. In this theory, it is thought that new knowledge is gained by children through the interaction between their experiences and ideas. In my artifact I would read the children a story and ask them open questions about the story using a puppet of the main character. Knowing and understanding the various early childhood theories is also important because it makes you better able to assess children’s learning and development and also helps with creating appropriate curriculum.
